The Escort RS 1800 MKII was presented in 1975 and introduced only minor changes with respect to the previous model, with an update of the bodywork but without altering the technical characteristics.31 It debuted at the Circuit of Ireland in 1975 and participated in the world championship from 1976. In its first year with little success, as it suffered several breakdowns and engine problems.

The following year Peter Ashcroft replaced Stuart Turner as team manager and signed Björn Waldegård as first driver. The competitive Escort on dirt was not competitive on asphalt sections, as could be seen in San Remo where Waldegård could only be fifth, and in Corsica where both cars abandoned. Nevertheless, Ford was runner-up and achieved the third consecutive victory in the RAC again with the Ford Escort, in its new version, as protagonist.

In 1978 the brand signed Hannu Mikkola and kept Ari Vatanen but the year was complicated, on the one hand several strikes that affected the company and on the other hand, several breakdowns prevented the team from fighting for the title. In Portugal, Mikkola was out of options after suffering a puncture and in Finland both Escorts abandoned due to electrical failures.

The only victory achieved that year was again in the RAC, this time with a unit for Mikkola entered by David Sutton's private team.32 In 1979 with Fiat officially withdrawn, Ford dominated the season and took its first drivers' and marques' title. The Escort was upgraded for asphalt rallies and with it they achieved victory in Portugal, Acropolis, New Zealand, Quebec and Great Britain and also achieved three second places, in Monte Carlo, Sweden and Finland.
